Biography
I trained in anthropology and art history before completing my PhD by research at the Royal College of Art (1990). Since then I have worked as a consultant on a number of exhibitions, been published widely on design history and theory and held permanent positions at Teesside University and Southampton Institute.
Since 2003 I have been responsible for the critical context element of a number of the MA design programmes at Central Saint Martins. I am currently writing a history of current design, basing my approach on the insights and concerns of contemporary practitioners.
Stephen is currently on sabbatical.
