Fine Art Programme; Diploma Leader, BA Fine Art | Diploma in Professional Studies

I am Diploma Leader for the new BA Fine Art Diploma in Professional Studies, which supports students on a self-directed sandwich year identifying and undertaking work placements that inform their artistic practice as well as personal and professional development.

Since 2000 I have been involved in many aspects and fields that encompass public, private and educational sectors. I have worked across a range of contemporary arts organisations and institutions as well as setting up my own enterprises that have covered commercial and non-commercial activities and included art from all disciplines. From 2004-2009 I founded and directed Zoo Art Fair, a non-profit platform that showcased emerging art organisations including galleries, project spaces, artist collectives, curatorial groups and publishers. Supported by private and public sponsors and partners, Zoo became the second must-see event during Frieze Week in October, exhibiting up to 300 artists and welcoming over 15,000 visitors from specialist international art professionals to general public. Alongside Zoo, I initiated and collaborated on independent curatorial projects through an agency, The Great Unsigned. Organisations I have worked for have included Chisenhale Gallery, Max Wigram Gallery and Royal Academy of Arts.

I have been a Visiting Lecturer for six years on the MA Curating Contemporary Art at the Royal College of Art and on the BA Fine Art Sculpture at Wimbledon School of Art. I have delivered presentations and taken part in panel discussions at various organisations and institutions including Royal College of Art, Institute of Contemporary Arts, Royal Academy of Arts, University of the Arts, London, IKON gallery, Liverpool University and Newcastle University. My research subjects include the study of exhibition display referencing historical as well new and alternative practice, the mapping of a full ecology of London’s contemporary visual arts landscape within a context of 10 years development as well as professional development for young artists and practitioners.
