Maria Palacios Cruz

Fine Art Programme; Visiting Lecturer, MRes Art: Moving Image

I’m a lecturer and curator of avant-garde cinema and artists’ film and video. Between 2010 and 2012 I was the director of Courtisane, an annual festival in Ghent, Belgium, where I continue to be involved as an associate programmer.

I have curated screenings, events and exhibitions for festivals and institutions including Cinematek (Royal Belgian Film Archive), Impakt Utrecht, Wiels Brussels, MuHKA Antwerp, Argos Brussels, Naples Independent Film Show, Videoex Zurich, Animate Projects, Instituto Cervantes and Paris Centre Pompidou.

Since 2012 I have been a lecturer at Kingston University in London, and I previously taught film history and theory at Académie Royale de Beaux-Arts and Ecole de Recherche Graphique in Brussels. I am currently completing a PhD at Université Libre de Bruxelles on the relationship between film theory and avant-garde cinema.
