John Beschizza

Drama and Performance Programme; Acting Tutor, MA Screen: Directing, Writing, Drama Centre London.

I trained as an actor at the Drama Centre London. In 1994 I was invited by my teacher and mentor, Doreen Cannon, then Head of Acting at RADA, to teach acting on the three year acting course, which I have done ever since.

In 2004 I joined the faculty at Drama Centre London, where I now teach Acting Technique to first year BA undergraduates and Acting on the MA Screen and the MA Acting courses. I also teach Screen Acting on the Syracuse University London Program and for Cambridge Arts and Sciences.

What I teach

I teach acting technique based on the work of Konstantin Stanislavski and developed in the second half of the twentieth century by visionary teachers Uta Hagen and her student Doreen Cannon.

The work enables the students to find physical, emotional and vocal freedom and thus deepen their physical and imaginative range of expression. The technique is primarily explorative; starting with the essential questions of Who, Where, When, What and Why – these create the imaginative framework that leads into structured exercises that encourage the student to investigate motivation, action, character and relationships.
