Dermot Hayes

Drama and Performance Programme; Principal Lecturer, BA Performance Design and Practice, Drama Centre London.

I'm Principle Lecturer in Performance, Design and Practice at Central Saint Martins, where I also trained.

I am an award-winning designer, having won Tony (USA) and Society of West End Theatre Awards (UK). I've designed over 80 productions for drama, opera and musical theatre. My design work has been produced in the USA, Scandinavia, Europe, the Far East and Australia. In the UK, I've designed productions for The Royal Shakespeare Company, The National Theatre and West End theatres. I was also Associate Director of Leicester Haymarket Theatre.

One of the main focuses of my design work has been for theatres that specialise in new writing: The Royal Court, Hampstead Theatre, The Bush and the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith in London and the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh. I've designed for such eminent playwrights as David Edgar and Howard Barker, Frank McGuinness, David Pownall and Nigel Williams.

I have also devised and produced performances for non-theatre, unconventional sites. My design work was chosen to represent Great Britain at the Prague Quadrennial International Exhibition of Theatre Design.
