Biography

I am a cultural historian, lecturing on modern British history, as well as cultural theory, urban theory, architectural history, psychogeography, archives, subcultures, popular culture, public and popular history, historical research methods, and the use of visual sources by historians.

I completed my PhD at Birkbeck, University of London in 2020, and have published my research in collected volumes and peer-reviewed journals. A monograph based on my doctoral research on English prison administration, ‘Star Men’ in English Convict Prisons, 1879-1948, was published by Routledge in 2023. I am currently writing a popular history of the English convict system.

I began teaching at Central Saint Martins in 2010 and have also taught at Kingston University London. I now teach on BA and MA Culture, Criticism and Curation and supervise Research Degrees at CSM. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Association.
