Emily enrolled on MA Design; Jewellery in order to consolidate and re-orientate her career as accessories designer for brands such as Topshop. To do this she focused on developing a string and resilient design language for her own brand.
Emily creates one-off highly emotive, unconventional, unpredictable precious items that were not be dictated by marketing values. Products and ideas that will value longevity over the disposable, individuality over mass production and the permanent over fashion trends. The illustrative and sculptural hand-writing process pieces with a feeling of fantasy, dark humour, bizarre beauty and nastiness. Emily describes her work as ‘badly behaved, perverse yet animated’. It is as well highly functional and enduring.
Since graduating Emily has used the experience and knowledge developed in her MA project to found the globally successful brand ‘Lie down I think I love you’. In order to deliver what her designs demand Emily has gone against the tide and developed her own successful London manufacturing base.
