Biography

Following the BA Jewellery Design course at Central Saint Martins, I went on to pursue a successful international jewellery career that took me to Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka and New York, culminating in my own fine jewellery collection.

When my family arrived, I felt it was time for a change and a chance to continue to work creatively alongside the family.

I took the diploma course in Botanical Illustration at the English Gardening School at the Chelsea Physic Garden. Having graduated with distinction - there is nothing like being a mature student to put the pressure on - I have gone on to pursue this work full-time.

I now successfully sell my work to private and public collectors and have received a Gold medal from the RHS in London November 2007. Although no longer practising the jewellery skills I learned at college, they have been invaluable in training my eye for detail, understanding of 3 dimensions and the ability to render these on a flat surface.

Why did you decide to study at Central Saint Martins?

Central Saint Martins has such a great reputation and is internationally recognised as a first class college, the course provided was right for me at the time so I decided whatever the outcome I should try for a place...

What was the best bit about living and studying in London?

Living in London is having access to life. You can reach out to the rest of the country and the world from London.

What top tips would you give to students who are beginning their studies?

Be focused, use your time wisely and utilise all the wonderful facilities and knowledge that is freely available to you while you are there.

And for students about to graduate?

All experience is valuable and whatever you do will contribute to your story.

What are you up to now? How did you get there?

I am currently working as a botanic artist, contributing to the Hampton Court Palace Florilegium and selling my originals, prints and cards through exhibitions and my website.

How has Central Saint Martins helped in your chosen career path?

Central Saint Martins gives you strength and confidence because of its prestige. To have been part of its alumni means that you were already selected into a cache of great artists and craftspeople. It gave me skills that I have used throughout my ensuing careers and connections that have supported me.
