I was born and brought up in Tokyo but I currently live in London. I studied fashion at Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo and after graduating, moved to London to study at Central Saint Martins.

My artwork is mostly based on illustrations, photography and installations but I have also performed poetry readings. I have recently been working on CD jacket covers, musician portraits and illustrations in magazines.

Why did you decide to study at Central Saint Martins?

I believed that Central Saint Martins had a long and professional history of education in art studies. Also the mix of tutors and students from all over the world was very inspiring.

What was the best bit about living and studying in London?

In London art and design stands in the same way as food or clothing; you can always feel/touch them in your everyday life. Also you are surrounded by top artists in London, which stimulates your mind and work.

What top tips would you give to students who are beginning their studies?

Studying at Central Saint Martins will inspire and help you all the time, and will support and develop your personality whilst making your own expressions in art and design. What you can learn in the first year is very basic things of design study, which I think is very important in your career afterwards. Always try creating something which you have never done before.

And for students about to graduate?

During your study at CSM you have found the right pathway in this big art and design field - so now just knock on the door of what you really want. Failure teaches success!

What are you up to now? How did you get there?

Working as an artist/designer in London, as well as doing work in Tokyo and Paris.

How has Central Saint Martins helped in your chosen career path?

I met professional people in art and design through some competitions and events in my student days which has helped in my later career.
