Atticus graduated from BA Culture, Criticism and Curation in 2012. He now works at Ontour, Amsterdam as eCommerce & Marketing Manager.
In your experience, what was the best thing about the course?
I was uncertain about what I wanted to do after university. I knew my primary interest was in art and design, but was unclear about how that would translate into a career. I was initially looking to study an Art History course, thinking this might provide direction for me. However, it was the breadth of BA CCC that I came to value most. It allowed me to explore a variety of themes I wouldn’t have found elsewhere and develop critical thinking skills to boot. This flexibility was invaluable as it gave me the tools to follow my own direction post graduation.
What did you most enjoy about the course?
The mix of individuals on the course was refreshing. We had quite an international class and everyone brought different perspectives and opinions. Having grown up in Birmingham this was invaluable.
Can you describe what your current job is?
I’m currently helping a young fashion label grow by developing their marketing programme and eCommerce offering. It’s a multifaceted job. I work with my Creative Directors to shape the company’s story, with photographers to direct the visual identity of the brand and developers to build our website. Alongside this I write copy for our marketing materials, run the social media accounts and manage our customer service team.
What do you most enjoy about it?
The mix of business and creative challenges.
Does your experience as a graduate of the BA Culture, Criticism and Curation course help you in your job, and if so, how?
Yes. I’m constantly having to judge creative work and design while thinking about multiple stakeholders. BA CCC helped develop the critical skills and visual acumen I need to dissect an image.
