Description

How do designers generate ideas? Where do ideas come from? A finished product is a combination of understanding form, function and materials, and finding ways of arriving at new possibilities in these areas. With an emphasis on the creative process and self-direction, the course will take students from an initial brief aimed towards their own design of a finished product. Student-led projects will cover topics such as:

  • creativity through playing with materials
  • three dimensional sketch model making as part of design development
  • problem solving
  • documenting ideas through sketches and photographs.

There will be tutor briefs, but students can expect to spend a considerable amount of class time developing their own design ideas. For the part-time 10 week courses, in order to fully benefit from the course, students should complete assigned tasks between classes.
