A hands-on course that will give an overview of the essential skills needed to start a successful jewellery business. It will introduce several aspects involved in running a business and will include at least one study trip to a relevant shop or exhibition.

We will cover the following practical issues:

  • generating appropriate visual imagery
  • promotional material
  • display
  • packaging
  • pricing
  • administration
  • hallmarking
  • copyright

By the end of the course you will have a better understanding of the trading practice and jargon of the jewellery business.

This course is aimed at those intending to set up as a sole trader, studio jeweller or small business.

Tutor information

Yvonne Kulagowski has over 15 years' of retail experience, working for the Crafts Council and Contemporary Applied Arts; she leads the dissertation unit at Camberwell College of Art and is a dissertation supervisor for the School of Fashion, Jewellery and Textiles at Central Saint Martins. Her book 'The Earrings Book' was published by A&C Black in 2007.
