Description

This contemporary furniture design and model making course combines both studio and workshop disciplines. You will learn to understand concepts and create sketches, working up your ideas with the help of the tutors, and then moving on to model making. The eventual result will be the creation of a scale model. This is, therefore, the perfect opportunity to practise the leap between ideas and three dimensional reality. This course is about experimentation with concepts, but also about the practical side of design, such as grasping an idea of basic batch production processes and ergonomics. The course is useful for both beginners wanting to try their hand at furniture design and those wanting to add to their portfolio. Many students have used this course to aid them in their applications for design degrees. All levels of experience are welcome, although it is better suited to the beginner rather then the practising designer. This is a practical design course and the emphasis will be on design and making rather than on the history of furniture design, although there will be reference to it.
