Do you want to gain new skills for producing exciting textile art? On this course you will explore different textile methods with an emphasis on utilising textiles for art or adornment. You'll visit an exhibition to gain an insight into textile art forms and processes and make technical notes and sketches to draw inspiration from.
Who should take this course?
It is ideal for those who have studied Art and Design, and are looking to develop their work using textiles
Each day will focus on a different technique, including hand weave, knit and embroidery.
Following practical demonstrations, you will design and make finished pieces in each textile method.
Your work can take the form of sculptures, wall hangings or jewellery.
You will also learn how to work with yarn in new and exciting ways.
By the end of the course you will also have explored and practiced a number of key textile techniques.
You should finish the course will be a vibrant array of design work and textile samples.

Please note: This course is for students aged 16 to 18 years old only
Berni Yates has over 30 years experience in the Fashion and Textiles sector – she has worked for Central Saint Martins for the past 20 years – her specialist area is Fashion Knitwear she has taught on BA Textiles throughout her career.
Berni also designs and delivers outreach programmes for CSM working with 16 – 18 year olds supporting on portfolio building for Foundation and BA courses at CSM. She has a wealth of knowledge of the Fashion and Textiles industry and continues to design and manufacture her own label of bespoke Hand knit garments. She is also joint course director for Textiles Portfolio short course at CSM.
Berni has a broad knowledge of learning and teaching at CSM and UAL more broadly so is well placed to help with portfolio building.

- A4 sketchbook
- Drawing materials including coloured pastels or pencils
