This course explores still life photography from a fine art perspective, but using commercial techniques. The opening session will introduce students to still life photography's relationship with painting and will look at contemporary artists who choose to photograph still life. The course will reveal the secrets of still life technique, from lighting glass and reflective objects to macro work and food photography. The studio lighting will be broken down and explained using both tungsten and flash lighting. Different briefs will be set for each session to encourage the students to develop their own still life project. A high end digital SLR will be used to capture each session; camera training will be given. By using a digital camera, work can be done in Adobe Photoshop to enhance the image. Workshops will be given in techniques such as widening the tonal range of an image and expanding the depth of field. Students can bring their own digital SLR or use the tutor's camera in the studio. This course is aimed at both beginners who have a basic knowledge of a digital SLR camera and professionals seeking to develop their portfolio.
