Description

Captured reality input -The art of creating high definition 3D with a standard digital camera.

The course looks to explore this new technology in three main parts, capture, editing and output. No prior knowledge of 3d software or photography is required.

Capturing

Capturing 3D can be achieved with any digital camera (this could be a phone, compact or DSLR camera). and the student will learn the techniques required to successfully capture the 2D data needed to create a 3D object.

Editing

The course will offer a simple 3D workflow with Autodesk packages, Momento and Meshmixer (all free to download) as well as a quick guide to image preparation in Photoshop. The students would process the original images on cloud based servers and then refine the outcome to make it print ready.

Output

In this section of the course the students will be introduced to a variety of 3D printers and will also have the opportunity to 3D print . This involves ‘fixing’ the print to make it print (watertight) ready using cloud based server applications as well as looking at post printing clean up techniques. The students will visit My Mini Factory and get an understanding of how this new technology is helping preserve artefacts with projects such as ‘Scan The World’. The students will leave the course with a good understanding of the techniques involved in creating 3D objects from photogrammetry as well as receiving a real insight into the amazing creative potential of this emerging technology.
