Do you want to know how to report from the catwalk shows, co-ordinate a fashion shoot and write fashion news? Do you dream of working on a fashion magazine? If you are interested in learning more about fashion journalism, this course in fashion journalism is for you.

Topics covered

Students will find out how to write news and features and will learn how to do face-to-face interviews.

As well as focusing on the essential core skills, the course also covers building contacts, how to get a job in fashion and the structure of a fashion team on a magazine.

Journalists in the industry increasingly have to commission fashion shoots if not style themselves, so an introduction on how to choose pictures and basic styling is also included.

The course is aimed at those looking for an insider's overview into the fashion journalism profession.

Entry requirements

This course will suit anyone with basic writing ability, a good grasp of the English language and a visual eye, looking to focus on fashion.

Tutor information

Harriet Worsley gained her degree at Central Saint Martins in Fashion Communication and Promotion and has worked as a fashion journalist for the trade and consumer press. She taught Fashion Communication on the Foundation Course at Central Saint Martins and has written four books on the history of fashion, she is also an accomplished garden designer.

Materials

Please bring with you to the first session:

  • Pens, pencils and writing paper
  • 3 fashion magazines of your choice

You will also need for the last two sessions:

  • A2 paper
  • Prit stick glue 
  • Scissors
  • 4 old magazines for collage
  • A laptop or equivalent, if you own one - this is not absolutely essential
Please note that you will need access to a computer and printer between classes to enable you to complete assignments between classes.
