Description

This intermediate course is aimed at designers/illustrators who have already developed a visual style and want to push their designs or illustrations further through the addition of motion. This course is ideal for professional illustrators or designers who wish to develop their narrative skills, or those considering application to undergraduate or postgraduate courses in motion graphics, moving image, animation or graphic design.

As the visual platforms on which we regularly view images demand more and more elements of motion we begin to see an interest in moving image as an important asset to the designer and illustrators portfolio of skills. You may want to retain your hand made style while exploring the potential of creating new angles through further exploration afforded by the use of digital manipulation or to add moving elements using typography. This course will enable images originated through traditional or digital means to be enhanced by adding motion.

In this two week summer school students can choose to work either to their own briefs or to set briefs.

Students will learn to:

  • Explore basic concepts of narrative using montage, storyboarding and animatics.
  • Develop simple narrative sequences using stop motion.
  • Edit and composite sequences using Adobe After Effects and Premiere.
  • Apply special effects, virtual cameras and lighting.
  • Work with layers to create virtual depth and space.
  • Apply simple character movement using Puppet tool.
  • Apply motion to typography.

The course will be taught in practical workshops by members of staff from CSM BAGD course.

Students attending this course should have a basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop software in English and some knowledge of illustration/graphic design.
