This course will introduce you to the basics of anatomical structures and the fundamentals of figure drawing. You will work on traditional life drawing skills to create convincing representations of the three-dimensional form of the body. This can be a great challenge.You will learn how to tackle those challenges, and how an awareness of anatomy can help you overcome them. Even a basic knowledge of the forms of the body can make a big difference!
- There will be extensive demonstrations of techniques and ideas.
- You will explore skills such as observation, measuring, and dealing with light and shade.
- We will also look at tricks and tips for handling proportion and adding depth to your drawings.
- You will make drawings from a full size model skeleton, study prepared drawings and diagrams.

This course offers direct practical help and a structured approach for those wishing to approach figure drawing for the first time or for those looking to refresh their skills.

Jennifer Crouch is a practicing artist specialising in projects exploring art-science relationships. Since January 2011 she has carried out drawing in the Dissecting Room at Saint Georges University, producing illustrations for the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and The American Journal of Sports Medicine. She also runs interdisciplinary workshops in schools and has delivered lectures at various Universities. In 2012 her work was exhibited at the London Design Festival and selected for the Threadneedle Prize Exhibition.
