Description

This course will equip you with a foundation from which to consider some of the key issues in contemporary art practice. While familiarising you with the theoretical debates associated with different strands of work, we will discuss how prevailing conditions and philosophical ideas may have affected the production and expectations of art. You will encounter a wide spectrum of artists, from important 20th century figures to emerging contemporary practitioners from London's dynamic art scene. The course will be structured around lectures, seminar discussions and screenings, along with museum and gallery visits.

Materials

Materials to be provided by tutor/CSM 
For the first 3 sessions all materials will be provided by CSM. These include:

  • Paper
  • Pencils
  • Erasers
  • Charcoal

For sessions 4 onwards, basic materials should be brought by the student. These include:

  • Willow charcoal sticks medium size -1 box
  • 1 white small putty rubber - Daler Rowney Firm
  • Whitesand cartridge or similar 140gsm A1 - 12 sheets
  • Masking tape
  • Conte chalk - red sanguin (must be 2450)
