Description

Haute Couture embroidery is a skill that requires patience, commitment and an in-depth knowledge of techniques handed down over centuries. Hand-embroidered garments command the highest prices because there is a recognition not only of the time required to create each piece but also because of the unique needle skills of the embroider who has refined their craft over years.

During this course you will learn the fundamentals of Haute Couture embroidery techniques and how they are taught and practiced in France. You will use a variety of materials and start to understand the patience and skill required to create the beautiful hand-crafted pieces found on the catwalk.

Topics covered:

  • Using the Crochet de Lunéville
  • Working on a tambour frame with a transparent silk organza
  • Chain stitch (in all directions) using special cotton thread
  • Embellishing with paillettes, tubes and beads
  • Using gold thread and metallic cord
  • Create vermicelli stitches with gold thread, beads and paillettes in the shape of a beautiful heart inspired by Balenciaga’s collection

Materials
All materials are provided. Throughout the course you will work with professional tools - with a crochet du Lunéville (hook) and a tambour frame (which will be provided by the college and are yours to keep at the end of the course)

Course outcomes

By the end of the course you will have a variety of different stitches on a heart  that can be used in your portfolio.
