This course is for anyone with experienced sewing skills, who would like to learn the high-end of fashion making. It is a practical course that concentrates on the production of a quality couture garment and it will offer the specialist skills that are necessary for a couture tailored garment.
You will be working on a half couture jacket and taken through the different steps of construction using a combination of hand stitching and machine-sewing skills. This will include:
- pad stitching
- edge finishes
- collar application,
- pocket insertion
- hand canvassing and facings.
Alongside the practical work a reference file will be developed containing notes and illustrations of the different stages covered in your practical example.
Entry requirements: You should be experienced in sewing skills

Over the past 3 seasons she has worked in consultation with Hardy Amies advising on fit and finishes for their men's wear collections with visits to various factories in Italy to work closely with the tailors. Moira has recently opened up a company which offers a wide range of services including one to one tuition in tailoring. In November 2010 Moira achieved the status of fellow of the HEA and is currently working on a research project that looks at addressing inclusivity and diversity within the fashion work rooms.
