Description

The textile design industry is changing rapidly with design methods widening to include working on fabric as well as on paper. This course explores design concepts, working with dyed and printed fabrics and with finishing and surface treatments. You will look at new techniques in textile technology including pleating, crushing, creasing, shibori, embossing, coating, bonding, lamination and burn-out combined with resist methods.

The course is aimed at designers who want to improve or diversify their design portfolio, adapt their skills or learn new ones.

Tutor information

After completing a degree in Fashion Textiles at Central Saint Martins, Dominique L'Olive moved on to be a studio manager where she developed and created designs for the UK, Japan and the US. She has since worked with many different companies such as the V&A, Jigsaw, Style Council and Dorothy Perkins, producing a range of textile designs. Dominique currently works as a freelance textile and surface pattern designer and teaches on a range of textile courses at the University of the Arts London.

  • A set of HB pencils HB-3 HB
  • Eraser and pencil sharpener
  • An apron
  • A pair of rubber gloves
  • A selection of paint brushes
