Course description

This intense short course is a focused project-led program, designed to help individuals develop and enhance their skills in Creative Direction.

Creative Directors play a key role in design and guide communication agencies, as well as leading brands and companies. They are responsible for heads and team of creatives like the following:

  • art directors
  • copywriters
  • designers
  • photographers
  • video producers.

They get involved from print to web, TV to radio, or automotive to fashion.

Creative Directors have the final say on everything that will be communicated to the customer. They understand their needs and are responsible for the recruitment of team members.

With the help of your tutor, an experienced Creative Director, you'll engage in practical exercises, case studies, and discussions to apply what you have learned.

Outcomes

By the end of this course you will:

  • Understand the role of a Creative Director and how it extends beyond art direction and design.
  • Have worked on projects that mimic the work of a creative director.
  • Build confidence in leading teams, present ideas and creative executions to clients, brand owners and decision-makers.

This is a natural progression course for students who have completed Art Direction courses or have industry experience of Art Direction or Strategy. It’s also a good fit for those looking to move into a Creative Direction or Senior Creative role.

IMPORTANT - Adobe ID Login for Short Course Students

Students will need to create an account with Adobe (unless you already have one) in order to access the Adobe suite at the college – instructions are included below. You will need to use a personal email address to create this. If you already have an account with Adobe, please make sure you bring your login details with you on the first day of the course.

Please note:

  • Creating an Adobe account is free.
  • The software will only be accessible when logged into a UAL networked computer
  • The same account can be used outside of the University, but software will only be accessible through a personal paid subscription that students will need to set up independently
  • You can still create an account on the day but doing this beforehand will save time and avoid delays to the start of the class.
  • If you already have an Adobe ID/ subscription you can use this on your short course rather than setting up a new account.

  • A recent computer with a recent operating system
  • An up-to-date web browser. (It would be advisable to ensure you
  • Access to two separate web browsers, we recommend Safari and Google Chrome
  • A headset with microphone/headphones is recommended
  • Webcam

To take part in the Online sessions you will need:

  • An up-to-date web browser (we recommend Chrome)
  • Microphone and headphones (a headset with a microphone function is recommended. The built-in microphone in your device would also be fine).
