Description

Experience Design for Retail is designed for anyone who owns or is responsible for retail spaces, or facilities which deliver services to the public (such as libraries, community centres, etc.). The course will provide you with conceptual tools and frameworks and practical innovation processes which will allow you redesign the customer experience in your space. This can have a profound impact on visitor satisfaction and retail or service success. Key topics include concept generation, identity and use of space.  The course will be delivered around practical experimentation both in the online studio and in the field, with the final aim of creating an original concept for a retail space you choose  The course will cover the following steps, building towards your final concept, which will be ready to pitch to stakeholders.

  • Choosing a space to work with
  • Analysing sites, user universes, and client chains
  • Writing a space narrative
  • Design matching space to product
  • Space design (sketches, mood boards, collages, etc.)
  • Materials and light map
  • Finalise design
  • Pitch your experience design concept.

Course Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will have a personalized retail strategy and retail space innovation for your own project/spatial requirement. This will match the retail narrative to the retail space and retail interaction you need, aligned with the experience you are aiming to achieve.

Tutor information

Iñaki Arbelaiz Is a trained MsC Architect and Urbanist, MsC Industrial Design and UX, and has an extensive international experience working on spatial innovation and urban behaviour, innovation systems design and roll out, and creative and service-oriented organizational design. This experience includes work on areas of urban invigoration in Russia, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom and Netherlands. Current projects include the Creative Systematic for the Basque Culinary Centre and Innovation Service Design for Ferrovial-Amey UK. He is also a visiting practitioner on the MA Innovation Management programme at Central Saint Martins.
