Description

Technical drawing is an essential tool for communicating ideas and concepts. Despite the development of ever more sophisticated CAD programs, traditional manual drafting remains as relevant as ever, and it is an essential solid foundation that once learned can later be applied to computer drawing. This course will give you an introduction to the language of technical drawing and the core drawing tools, principles and techniques used by designers. 

Topics covered

You will learn through a series of set projects. Topics will include:

  • an introduction to drafting equipment
  • basic geometry
  • line type, scales, views and sections
  • lettering and dimensioning
  • perspective drawing

Sketches will be used to assist in problem solving and the visualization of spatial relationships.

Tutor information

Shanee Beery studied Product Design at Central Saint Martins.  Since being a student, Shanee has been an active Product Design Ambassador for UAL, taking different workshops around London with teenagers and adults as one, spreading the word 'Product Design'.

Materials

Please bring with you to the first session: 

  • 30cm ruler
  • A3 Layout paper pad (45gsm or 50gsm)
  • Set of squares - 31cm long
  • 2H and HB pencils
  • A decent compass - under £10.00
  • A BASIC SIMPLE pencil sharpener
  • Protractor
  • Black Drawing Pens / Fine Liners - 0.05mm + 0.4m
