Universal International Pictures worked on a large-scale fashion-performance event with Central Saint Martins called ‘The Minions Collective’ to promote the new Minions movie.
The purpose of this collaboration was to showcase 20 fashion garments, which were designed by CSM Foundation: Fashion and Textile students which were inspired by the essence of ‘The Minions’ and communicated through a unique fashion-dance performance.
The graduates Denisa Dumitrescu, Philippine Laureau and Sylvana Lautier from BA Performance, Design and Practice were briefed to investigate dynamic approaches for a set design suitable for a choreographed performance.
The graduates presented three initial design concepts to the client and course staff at the interim review meeting and one proposal was chosen to take forward. The graduates then developed ‘mini immersive worlds’ and an elevated performance space for a live choreographed fashion-dance event to celebrate the mischievous, subversive, curious, unpredictable nature of the Minions.
The aim of the collaboration was to create online content which could be shared in order to generate excitement and interest in the new movie from internet savvy teens and ‘millennials’. The event was experienced live by an invited audience of international vloggers who captured video content that they shared with their Youtube followers globally online, alongside official video content created by Universal Pictures.
