Presentation Skills: Helping Students to Feel At Ease With Presenting
Introduction
The session will look at common emotional and physical reactions to giving presentations and suggest simple ways of acknowledging, normalising and overcoming associated fears. There will be tips on how to help students deal with feelings that are getting in the way of functioning and performance.
No preparation needed. Handouts and PowerPoint provided.

Anyone who teaches on courses where students have to do presentations
What is the overall aim?
The workshop aims to develop techniques in helping students work through and overcome presentation anxiety.
What are the expected Learning Outcomes?
By the end of the session you will have learnt:
- How to improve the chances of your students learning how to become good at presenting
- More about the emotional and physical reactions to presenting and public speaking
- Ways to help students help themselves and each other in feeling more confident in giving presentations
- The importance, for many students, of the anxiety provoking nature of presenting to others being acknowledged
- Useful tips and strategies to pass on to students
