Introduction to Intellectual Property Key Issues for Teaching Staff

Introduction

As teacher, you are usually the first call of contact for students to advise them on Intellectual Property (IP) including copyright, design right, trade mark and confidentiality. However IP is also important for your own creative practice and your relationship with the University, collaborators and clients.

This 2-hour workshop will focus on issues that are relevant to staff of all courses such as IP ownership on work placements, preparing for degree shows, IP in creative collaborations/commissions and student sponsored projects (i.e. when working with external companies etc). We will discuss relevant resources and learning material and how to use the Own-it service and IP enquiry system

Who should attend?

Teaching staff who support learning.

What is the overall aim?

To provide an overview of IP and how to use Own-it.

What are the expected Learning Outcomes?

The workshop will

  • give you an opportunity to recognise and fill knowledge gaps
  • introduce you to UAL’s IP policy and important procedures
  • enable you to deal with IP issues confidently
  • introduce you to the Own-it service and website

There will be time to discuss subject-related IP issues throughout the workshop.
