Introduction
Myblog.arts is a blogging service for the UAL community. Students can use it to quickly and easily set up a personalised online journal. Users can also easily set up group blogs, to allow for collaborative discussion and documentation of processes and projects. Blogs provide an engaging and social way for students to document their research processes and the development of their ideas, and is ideal for reflection in a social context. The service provides an interface for browsing through and commenting on other users' blog posts.
Who should attend?
This workshop is for all staff who are interested in using blogging to support their students' learning.
What is the overall aim?
The overall aim is to introduce the opportunities which blogging presents to support engaging learning, and in the process to familiarise participants with the key features of the university's blog system, which uses the Wordpress blog software.
What are the expected Learning Outcomes?
On completing the workshop the learner should be able to:
- Have an understanding of the applications of blogs for learning and teaching.
- Develop ideas for the use of blogs in his or her own teaching context.
- Create an account and log in to the blog system.
- Make a blog post and a blog page, and have an understanding of the difference between the two.
- Upload images and other media and add them to a post.
- Categorise and tag blog content.
- Customise the look of the blog.
- Create a group and a group blog.
- Subscribe to blogs using a blog reader.
- Have an awareness of copyright issues in the digital domain.
