Chelsea’s Fine Art Programme Director Martin Newth is an artist whose work is primarily photographic, but also includes installation and video.

Newth’s practice is an on-going investigation into the material and generative properties of photography, where the process used to make the work is as much the subject of the work as what is being photographed.

Newth has exhibited nationally and internationally including solo and group exhibitions at George and Jørgen, V&A Museum of Childhood (both London), The Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts (Taipei), Axel Lapp Projects (Berlin), Focal Point Gallery (Southend), Ffotogallery  (Cardiff), Open Eye Gallery (Liverpool) and the Kunstverein Konstanz (Germany).

Newth’s work and writing has been published in books and catalogues including: ‘Troubled Waters’ (2013), Visible Economies: Photography, Economic Conditions, Urban Experience’ (2012), ‘Sentinel’ (2011); ‘Future Images’, (2010); ‘Sequences: Contemporary Chronophotography and Experimental Digital Art’, (2009); ‘Martin Newth: Solar Cinema’, (2007); and ‘Slow Burn’, (2006).
