Explore the main design processes involved in furniture making. From creative thinking to ergonomics, model making and presentation skills, you will consider the engineering and construction methods used when designing furniture, as well as the use of colour, materials, processes and finishes. You will also learn from history, science, art and design as you consider the impact of social development and technological advances throughout time. There will also be opportunities to learn about the furniture industry including mass production versus bespoke and limited editions.
With guidance from a professional furniture designer, you will produce a complete set of working drawings. With these you will construct a scale model as well as a final 1:1 prototype from card.
