Planning spaces for a flexible mix of living, working and meeting has become a trending topic for designers working in the commercial sphere including both hospitality and public spaces. With the increasing demand for inspirational, social spaces to work and live, an organic cloud of connectivity is forming and allowing residential, corporate, retail and hospitality design to gradually merge. This seminar based course will focus on the meaning of a circular design process, exploring new ways of interacting between spaces and users to challenge and push new design innovation. You will learn how flexible spaces can be created to stimulate collaborative relationships, networking and creativity. In particular you will look at practical case studies that focus on the hospitality sector but extend and integrate with public spaces to include event planning, flexible lobbies for work and relaxation and co-working spaces. You will also learn how hospitality services are being utilised and adapted within residential design. A dynamic course, providing you with invaluable, up-to-date design concepts that will challenge you to think both critically and outside the box in relation to the future of design.
You will have gained an overview of the latest developments in commercial design, with a focus on flexible lifestyle design within the hospitality sector.

Practicing or aspiring interior designers, architects or event planners keen to learn about the current trends in social design for commercial spaces. This course could lead to further studies in hotel or commercial design.

Manuela Mannino is an Italian Architect and owner of THDP, a London and Turin Architecture and Interior Design practice specialising in hospitality design. THDP was established in 2004 with partner Nicholas Hickson. The studio has brought together some of Britain’s and Italy’s diverse design talents to serve the most prestigious International clients. THDP’s first project was the interior design for the Olympic Hotel Project ‘Pragelato Village Resort and Spa’ in Italy. Clients include Hilton, IHG and private investors. Working in London from 2000, she gained contract experience on residential developments projects: ‘Riverside Quarter’ and ‘Albion Riverside’ and designed the interiors for the contract design company CP Hart. She brings her contemporary eclectic approach to projects, combined with her skills in design concept, to take care of the aesthetic link between architectural function and decorative details. Manuela is also a chartered member of RIBA.
