Would you like to feel more confident when choosing a colour scheme for a client? This one day course will provide you with the tools to be more adventurous with colour, as well as teaching you the terminology to speak with confidence on the subject. Our expert tutor will share with you their useful tips to ensure that you come across professionally when speaking to a client - an invaluable skill. We will also show you how to use colour to manipulate the feel of a space. You will learn how different colours can be used to change the proportion of a space as well as understanding which colours can be used to make walls feel as though they are either receding or advancing. This is a fast paced course with a lecture on colour in the morning and a fun, practical task in the afternoon.

Course Outcomes
At the end of the course you will have the skills to choose a suitable colour palette for an interior space and have developed confidence to communicate this professionally with potential clients.

Tutor information

Lyndall Fernie is the lead tutor for Interior Design short courses at Chelsea College of Arts in London and Dubai.

Lyndall began her career in Italy as a professional fashion designer working with Moschino and Versace; later returning to the UK to work in PR for a record label where she worked with many well-known dance groups such as S’Express, Bomb the Bass and Deee-Lite. She went on to study Interior Design, at Chelsea College of Arts and ran Area Squared Design, a successful interior design company, for 10 years, designing high end residential properties in central London. During this time she also opened two interior design shops in the fashionable area of Islington in London selling beautiful interior products. 

Lyndall is currently working as a design consultant for private clients, developers, and interior design companies, specialising in the remodelling of high end residential properties. As well as teaching at Chelsea College of Arts she has also taught at other leading design schools including London College of Communication, The Interior Design School London, KLC and The Design school in both Moscow and St Petersburg.



Materials

Please bring the following materials with you on the first day:

  • A notepad, pen and pencil (HB)
  • A concept board*
*Concept  boards are used by designers to convey the overall feel of a project, assembling images and objects which inspire, conjure up the feeling of the desired space. Your board should be no bigger than A2 and consist of a selection of found images (usually taken from magazines), to convey the desired concept for a  domestic living space e.g. A house or an apartment. It may be helpful to choose five adjectives to inform your ideas.

All other materials will be provided during the course.
