Description

This course will introduce you to domestic machine knitting and its various functions. You will learn how to operate the machines beginning by casting on and experimenting with tensions and yarns. You will then continue to develop your skills as you undertake a mini project by experimenting further with textures and techniques. Depending on your interest, you will either create a cushion for an interior or 3 - 5 individual knit swatches, which you could use for a future project or add to your portfolio. You will learn about various stitch techniques and trimmings as well as how to construct a basic pattern for a cushion. You will also be taught how to create a buttonhole. To help you get started, please bring along some visual research or a mood board and if possible some samples for inspiration. Advice about purchasing and maintaining your own knitting machine will be provided.

Course Outcomes
You will leave the course with a basic understanding of how to use a domestic knitting machine. You will be familiar with the principle knitting techniques and terminology, which can be applied to future knit projects. You will leave with some knit swatches or a completed cushion.

Who Should Attend
This course is open to complete beginners and entirely suitable whether you have hand knitted before or not! This could also be an ideal refresher if you have not used a knitting machine for a while and are interested in creating your own knitted fabrics.
