Learn to embrace your inner Abstract Artist as you develop your understanding of colour, form, shape and line. This four day course - comprised of both practical demonstrations and individual practice - will encourage you to let go of traditional visual references and subject matter. You will develop your own visual language and improve your understanding of the principles of painting through experimentation. 

Course Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have created a number of paintings which explore different concepts of abstraction in your own style. You will have also further developed your understanding of abstract painting.

Who Should Attend
This course is designed for painters wishing to experiment with themes of Abstraction, although it would also be suitable for beginners eager to be introduced to painting in this style.

Tutor information

Roger Gill is an artist and tutor who works in London and who has exhibited in the UK and Europe. He teaches a number of drawing and painting courses at Central Saint Martins, including courses on life painting, oil painting techniques, portrait drawing and painting and bespoke one-to-one tuition.

Materials

Please bring the following items with you on the first day:

  • A Paint Palette ( flat white or clear) and water pots

  • A Selection of brushes (Preferably soft and hard) and a palette knife

  • A selection of acrylic paints - including the primary colours and black and white

  • An apron or old shirt to protect your clothes

  • Some examples of painters or paintings that inspire you or that you like
