Description

Learn about the science of colour and the history of paints and pigments. Colour is often one of the most exciting components of a painting. By looking at the paintings of artists you will understand the many ways in which colour can be used. From its sublime aesthetic qualities often used to express mood, or arouse an emotion to the symbolic connotations and illusory potential.  This course will reveal the secrets of colour and demonstrate how it can be used as a powerful tool to evoke both calm and creativity.

Through practical exercises your tutor will help you to understand the difference between, hues, tints, tones and shades. You will learn how to mix colour and create harmony and discord.  You will then move onto create your own palette of calmness and with this create your own abstract composition.

Course Outcomes
You will have a greater knowledge of colour and understand how to use this to affect your mood and creativity. You will have filled your sketchbook with studies and have produced a final abstract colour field painting or collage.

Who Should Attend
Anyone interested in learning about the powerful use of colour from an artist’s perspective. Whether you are a practising artist, creative or simply looking to gain a greater technical understanding of colour history.
