If you have a passion for making and creating, don’t miss out on your chance to join our two day Art Blast! You will waste no time in getting hands on as you experiment with and explore a range of materials and approaches. Working with a professional artist, you will have the opportunity to work in 2D and 3D to create and produce new ideas and  exciting outcomes.

Course Outcomes
You will leave the course with new ideas and ways of making art work. You’ll have a better understanding of what going to art college might be like. You’ll also have made new work for your school portfolio.

Who Should Attend
Suitable for students aged 15 – 17 years. An ideal taster experience for those considering further studies in art and design. No prior experience is required.

Tutor information

Valerie McBride is a book illustrator who has worked for several publishers including Oxford University Press, Heinemann and BBC Books.

She is currently an Associate Lecturer on the CCW Foundation course at Camberwell. For the past twenty years she taught at Wimbledon College of Arts, where she contributed to the Foundation course and was course leader of the Pre-Foundation course. She also teaches illustration on Professional Development programmes within adult education for those making a career from their art practice.

She contributes regularly to gallery education programmes, delivering workshops and master classes related to current exhibitions.



Jacqui Gunn is a freelance set and costume designer and artist. She lecturers on higher and further education and MA courses in the UK and Europe. Jacqui has also had several artist residencies in schools, and works with referral units and special needs groups. Jacqui has worked as a Designer in mainstream and devised Theatre, Opera, Contemporary Dance and Community projects.


Materials

Please bring the following materials with you on the first day:

  • A sketchbook (size A4 or bigger)

  • A digital camera  to document your work (optional)

  • A Biro, pencil, rubber and glue-stick
