This course will provide you with an overview of digital image-making and demonstrate how images can be manipulated across print and online platforms. Layout, illustration and image editing are central to the work of a designer, each perfectly executed with the aid of the key Adobe design packages: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. We will help you familiarise with the interface and creative tools within each programme as you learn how to use these creatively and effectively. We will look at creating artwork for different printing methods and for use online. The course will cover a range of tools and methods, encouraging students to experiment with a combination of processes best suited to their individual aims and preferred application.
Using the pen tool to create shapes
Drawing using a grid
Using pathfinder tools
Creating pattern brushes
Importing and formatting graphics between programmes
Placing images into an InDesign layout
Integrating hand-drawn lines and textures with digital elements
Using basic layout tools (i.e. grids and guides) to compose an image
Creating and preparing artwork for print processes requiring colour separation, including screenprinting, risography and spot-colour
By the end of the course you'll be familiar with a range of image-making and manipulating tools throughout the three programmes. You will have a greater understanding of how to integrate the software to create and prepare images for print and digital application.
