Description

Designed for aspiring professional designers, this course will provide you with valuable advice and guidance, to make sure your designs work – first time and help you avoid those expensive mistakes. It is essential as a practicing designer, to offer bespoke furnishings, rather than buying ready-mades. The course will be lecture based with a few short group activities. You will learn how to brief curtain makers and upholsterers. You will become familiar with the professional terminology to confidently discuss ideas with tradespersons. And gain advice on understanding fabric labels and specifying suitable fabrics. There will also be an opportunity to consider how designers use a range of fabric based items to create bespoke interiors and provide solutions for ‘problem’ windows. Please be advised that this is not a course that will help you to assemble fabrics and colours.

Course Outcomes
At the end of the course, you will be aware of the range of window treatments and understand how to select the most suitable option for the space. You will be able to interpret fabric label information and have a greater knowledge of terminology to help you and communicate with interior design trade suppliers and avoid pitfalls.

Who Should Attend
Aspiring or practicing interior designers looking to develop their understanding of the professional soft furnishing trade.
