Gain design inspiration, tips and skills as you learn the essential steps to plan and manage a home decoration project. Under the guidance of a professional interior designer, you will learn simple methods to develop your concept and effectively translate this into a workable, functional and stylish home design. You’ll also learn about design trends, colour, lighting and hard surfaces.
The course will be packed with practical advice and fresh ideas to help you unleash your creativity and discover new ways to transform a house into a home. We will advise you about the importance of hiring the correct experts and guide you through specifying, building regulations and planning permission. Please bring plans with measurements and images, in relation to an existing project, along to the first class so that you can make a start from the get-go. If you are not able to bring these along, your tutor will provide you with a hypothetical plan, to work from.
By the end of this course you will understand the key design processes and steps involved in decorating and renovating a residential interior. You will have the confidence to successfully plan your design, plus know how to identify and take the necessary steps to create your desired environment.

Chris Kearns runs a small, independent interior design practice. Her services cover interior architecture, design and decoration as well as furniture design in both the commercial and residential sectors. Chris spent over 12 years working in branding and advertising before retraining as an interior designer at the University of the Arts, London. She decided on a career change after completely renovating two of her own houses and subsequently being asked to help friends with their refurbishments. Chris now works closely with clients to develop individual spaces that look beautiful and work beautifully – delivered with meticulous attention to detail, budget and timing. Chris believes that good design can be unobtrusive, but it should always change how we feel about a space and how we behave within it. Chris’s commercial projects have featured in The Times, The Guardian, The Independent, Metro, British Airways Highlife Magazine and Lancashire Life Magazine. One of her restaurant projects has just been listed in Time Out’s Best Restaurants in London Guide 2015 and two have made it into Tatler’s Best Restaurants in the UK Guides 2011 and 2013.
