This course will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to create a design for a domestic space. Through a series of workshops, you will develop your design awareness and learn the fundamentals of planning a design scheme.
We will introduce you to three-dimensional thinking and analysis as you begin to plan and stylise an interior space. There will be an emphasis on developing your practical skills as you learn how to produce scale drawings, mood boards and sample boards. In addition, you'll find out where to source and how to create that designer look.
With a wealth of unrivalled experience and expertise, our tutors will provide vital insights into the realities of the design world.
Please note that this course requires dedication; students should therefore allocate time to work on their projects in their own time.

By the end of this course you will have developed a range of design-related skills, and the confidence to start applying your skills to your own domestic design scheme. You will leave the course with a number of newfound design-related skills as well as work to add to a portfolio.
Who Should Attend
This course is ideal for those who are interested in Interior Design but are new to the subject. Maybe you are thinking about returning to full-time study but would like to build your portfolio for an application. Or maybe you are hoping to make the first steps at changing your career and becoming a professional interior designer. Perhaps you are drawn to interior magazines or Pinterest and wish to learn interior design as a leisure pursuit.
This course will guide you through the principal skills as practised by professional interior designers. Afterwards, you may wish to progress onto the Introduction to Interior Design - Plus.

Lyndall Fernie is the lead tutor for Interior Design short courses at Chelsea College of Arts in London and Dubai.
Lyndall began her career in Italy as a professional fashion designer working with Moschino and Versace; later returning to the UK to work in PR for a record label where she worked with many well-known dance groups such as S’Express, Bomb the Bass and Deee-Lite. She went on to study Interior Design, at Chelsea College of Arts and ran Area Squared Design, a successful interior design company, for 10 years, designing high end residential properties in central London. During this time she also opened two interior design shops in the fashionable area of Islington in London selling beautiful interior products.
Lyndall is currently working as a design consultant for private clients, developers, and interior design companies, specialising in the remodelling of high end residential properties. As well as teaching at Chelsea College of Arts she has also taught at other leading design schools including London College of Communication, The Interior Design School London, KLC and The Design school in both Moscow and St Petersburg.
Jayne Fisher is an interior designer with more than twenty years experience in both domestic and commercial practice. Since 1999, Jayne has been an independent lighting and interior design consultant on both domestic and commercial design projects.
She has worked in retail with responsibility for the design and project management of many high street stores including Virgin and Office Shoes.
Other projects are residential, preparing planning applications, design and decorative schemes along with project management. She has been teaching design students on both Interior Design and Lighting courses for Chelsea College of Arts and London College of Communication since 1998.
Please bring the following materials with you on the first day:
Notebook and pen
You will need the following materials for subsequent sessions:
A3 pad of tracing paper
A selection of black fine liner pens; 0.1, 0.3, 0.8 or nearest sizes available.
A Glue Stick
If studying on an intensive 1 – 2 week course, a laptop or tablet will be required for research from day three.??
