This exciting online course will give you the opportunity to learn about the key principles of interior design. Each week you will participate in a live teaching session, led by a professional Interior Designer as they share their expertise and guide you through a number of tasks that will help you develop your understanding of the design process. You’ll learn how to plan a domestic space to scale and be shown how to produce drawings, moodboards and colour palettes. You will benefit from the opportunity to learn from your fellow students as you review your work, develop your ideas and learn how to overcome problems and refine your designs.
By the end of the course you will have developed your confidence and understanding of the interior design process. You will have learnt how to plan a domestic space to scale and understand how to produce drawings, moodboards and colour palettes.
Who Should Attend
This course is ideal for anyone keen to learn more about the Interior Design process. Whether you have a new home, are thinking about undertaking future studies in this area, or considering a career change – this course will provide you with the perfect introduction and increase your knowledge and understanding of the subject and what it takes to be an interior designer!
Jayne Fisher is an interior designer with more than twenty years experience in both domestic and commercial practice. Since 1999, Jayne has been an independent lighting and interior design consultant on both domestic and commercial design projects.
She has worked in retail with responsibility for the design and project management of many high street stores including Virgin and Office Shoes.
Other projects are residential, preparing planning applications, design and decorative schemes along with project management. She has been teaching design students on both Interior Design and Lighting courses for Chelsea College of Arts and London College of Communication since 1998.
Please have the following materials available for the start of the course (although some will not be used immediately):
Notebook and pen
Scissors and scalpel
Pritt Stick (paper glue)
A selection of interior design and life style magazines which you are prepared to cut up for images
Triangular metric scale rule (not a conversion scale) with the following scales, 1:50 & 1:20
300mm set square
HB and 2H pencil
Propelling pencil 0.5 with 2H leads
A retractable eraser
An A3 pad of tracing paper
Digital camera and or scanner - to record and upload work for discussion
Access to a printer and some good quality photo paper
Your tutor will discuss materials in more detail on the first day of your course.
Prior to the start of your course, please ensure:
You have a headset and microphone attached to your computer.
You have a webcam.
Your browser has a recent version of Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Google Chrome.
Your computer is running the most recent version of Java. You can download it from here: http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp
Most importantly, you have a good internet connection with a bandwidth upwards of 56k.
