You will learn how to carry out a simple building survey, understand drawing conventions, annotate, use draft equipment, and use these skills this to prepare your own simple architectural drawings...

We will teach you the basics of technical drawing and show you how to interpret and sketch plans, sections and elevations. You will learn how to carry out a simple building survey, understand drawing conventions, annotate, use draft equipment, and use these skills this to prepare your own simple architectural drawings. We will also consider more technically advanced representations, as well as a series of case studies that demonstrate key aspects of drawing.
You will leave having produced your own examples of architectural drawing, including plans, sections and elevations. You'll appreciate the basics of drawing, as understood by architects and interior designers. You'll be able to use drafting equipment, including the use of scale.
Who Should Attend
Anyone interested in architecture and interior design, whether you are a current or prospective student in these areas, are about to refurbish your property or are using an architect and want to understand architectural drawing. You may also be a product, set, stage or TV designer who needs some technical drawing experience.
Peter Couper is an Architect with over 13 years working in practice and has been teaching on the drawing and interior design Short Courses for ten years.
Peter was an associate at Wilkinson King Architects and was the project architect on the award winning Baden Powell Outdoor Centre and on numerous residential extensions / refurbishments.
Peter started his own practice Peter Couper Architects in the middle of 2011, specialising in residential work, he has a number of projects now complete and is currently working on high-end refurbishments in Chelsea, Camden and Primrose Hill.
Please bring the following materials with you on the first day:
- 0.5mm propelling pencil with 2H & HB leads
- Staedler Mars plastic rubber
- 250 mm or bigger adjustable set square
- Metric scale rule with the following scales: 1:20, 1:50, 1:100 (not a conversion scale)
- 3m tape measure
- Drawing compasses
