Speedo International challenged students to turn obsolete Speedo LZR Racer suits into building components for an exhibition space at the Ecobuild Convention.

Who: Speedo International and Ecobuild
With: BA Interior and Spatial Design students, Chelsea College of Arts
What: Pavilion for Ecobuild Convention

After testing the suits’ capabilities - their water resistance and repulsion as well as their capacity for tension and expansion - students presented Speedo and Ecobuild representatives with 19 pavilion concepts.

“We’re delighted to work with Chelsea to find new and innovative uses for our excess stocks of the Speedo LZR Racer suit. Students have shown enormous creativity and originality.”

- David Robinson, President, Speedo International

Speedo International and Ecobuild chose to take student Kristina Bernard’s design forward. Kristina’s design, with ideas from two other students, formed the final creation, which was a pergola made by weaving living willow with the Speedo suits.
