Work experience schemes

BBC Extend Scheme
Annual targeted scheme offering six months paid work experience within the BBC.

Channel 4: 4 Talent - Diversity Production Training
12 month paid work experience scheme with various production companies organised and supported by Channel 4.

Papworth Trust
Aid disabled people into work through various programmes.

4.Shaw Trust
Provides rehabilitation, training, work tasters and employment support for disabled people.


Useful organisations for people with disabilities

Blind in Business
Successful charitable organisation that supports partially sighted and blind graduates within the competitive job market. Also offer over free training courses and workshops, dealing with issues such as career paths for partially sighted or blind people.

DADA South - Disability Arts Development Agency
Provides support to Deaf and disabled artists in the South East of England and aims to promote disabled artists and create interest in their work. Various programmes are run as platforms for artists to promote their work.

Disability toolkits
Aims to provide work experience opportunities, internships and placements for disabled students in the UK and provides information for students, for academic institutions and employers. Covers all areas that could concern disabled students including professional behaviour and legal issues.

Equality and Human Rights Commission
Deals with all issues of human rights including disability within Britain. Provides services to deal with discrimination and provides guides on equal opportunities and best practice.

EmployAbility
Supports disabled people into employment through close links with employers and providing advice and guidance to disabled jobseekers. Holds special events and graduate fairs as well as providing a drop in service and one-to-one support for students.

Disability Now
The UK's leading national disability newspaper covering a variety of topics including careers, travel, sports and politics. Students can find the latest news and search for vacancies on the jobs page.

Employers Forum on Disability
Leading employers' organisation focused on disability in the business world and provides comprehensive support and information on all aspects of disability and employment. Offers advice and support through the 'Disability Directions' service and provides members lists, including networks. Vacancies page includes jobs within disability friendly as well as disability service companies. Work placements are also advertised.

Broadcasting & Creative Industries Disability Network (BCIDN)
Brings together the UK's major broadcasters, film-makers and others in the creative industries to explore and address disability as it relates to the media industry.

Employment Opportunities
Well established and support employment service to all disabled people and those with medical conditions. Provide training, one-to-one support and resources in finding employment.

Jobcentre Plus
Disability Employment Advisors offer support and advice in finding employment, disability grants, support within your workplace and the various programme and services are offered.

The Shaw Trust
A national charity that supports disabled and disadvantaged people in finding and sustaining longterm employment through training and partnerships with employers. Advisors work on one-to-one basis focusing on individual needs, including assisted living needs and government programmes and grants.

Shape Arts
Shape is a disability-led arts organisation working to improve access to culture for disabled people. We develop opportunities for disabled artists, we train cultural institutions to be more open to disabled people, and we run participatory arts and development programmes.
