Lorena Basterrechea Mayoral is second year BA Drawing student at Camberwell College of Arts.

Why did you choose Camberwell's BA Drawing course?

I have been interested in drawing since the beginning of my Fine Art course at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain. I chose to study drawing at Camberwell because I was interested in the openness of the course.

Tell us about your current practice.

I am experimenting with macro-photography. I am very interested in the closeness and ambiguity that it brings.

In fact I used macro-photography as a tool to produce artwork for the Unit exhibition. The piece is part of an on going project based around touch. It focuses on the tactile, not only as something physical but also as a strongly evocative element.

Could you tell us about your experience of Unit, the Fine Art second year exhibition at Café Gallery Projects?

As I am an Erasmus student, the opportunity to work on a concrete project and take part in a group exhibition was from the very beginning a really exciting and enriching experience.

Through this process I tried to take advantage of the resources that Camberwell offers to students. Trying things that I didn't know before. In this case macro photography.
