Biography

Miraj Ahmed originally trained as an architect and creates works using drawing, painting, photography and installations.

Ahmed explores themes of spatiality and perception through his paintings that depict both light and dark, while his photography observes subtle subversions of ordinary objects and space. His Heterotopia series brings these ideas together, evoking notions of otherness within familiar objects associated with the body.

Ahmed has been involved in architectural and public art projects in the UK and internationally, such as Host at the Oratorio di San Ludovico (Venice), and his work has been exhibited at galleries and festivals including Wimbledon Space and Fabbrica Europa (Florence).

Ahmed now concentrates on his practice as an artist, as well as his teaching at Camberwell College and the Architectural Association. Ahmed is also a Design Fellow at the University of Cambridge.
