The crossover area between the disciplines of sculpture and performance are of particular interest to Leah Capaldi’s practice, with echoes of the seminal performance work of the late 1960s and early 70s.

Capaldi explores the pivotal relationship between object or subject, encouraging the audience to question themselves in relation to the work and playing with notions of surveillance and spectatorship.

Investigating this through an ever widening variety of media including video, scent, installation, object making and performance her work subverts the passive role of the viewer and challenges them to reassess it. She questions how our perception of an environment can alter an audiences self awareness and behaviour within it.

She has shown at Matt’s Gallery, Serpentine, ICA, Zabludowicz Collection and Site Gallery. Capaldi exhibits internationally and has recently had exhibitions in South Korea, Berlin and Holland.

She was a finalist for the Catlin Prize, winner of the Exposure Prize at Parasol Unit and was awarded The Arts Foundation Sculpture and the Gerston/Zevi Land Art traveling residency and ACME Firestation Live/Work residency.
