Care of Photographs and Digital Print
6 - 7 August | 10am - 4.00pm | Monday and Tuesday
You will be introduced to the basic principles of caring for a collection of photographic prints. Practical exercises to produce prints will be used as learning exercises to explore the materials that make up a photograph and why they are chemically-sensitive objects.
Physical Retouching of Digital and Photographic Prints
8 August | 10am - 4.00pm | Wednesday
You will be introduced to suggested techniques for retouching prints in response to printing flaws and minor mechanical damage. You will understand how to prepare the materials needed, and why different techniques suit different print types.
You will have gained an insight into how to the materials used in photography. You will understand why photographs are particularly vulnerable to damage over time. You will have begun to understand how to care for photographs and what can be done to limit damage relating to handling, storage and display. You will have practised the use of isolating layers and the application of retouching media. You will understand how to select and source materials.
Who Should Attend
Anyone with an interest in the care of photographic collections, including owners of photographs, artists, and anyone with an interest in conservation but without previous experience of working with photographs.
After completing this course, you may wish to progress on our Paper Conservation Package
